Emotion is the fuel of change _ Anthony Robbins

Anthony Robbins claims that emotions are the fuel of change. see www.robbinsmadanestraining.com  If a person wants to do something, then it is their desire (emotions) that motivate them, at least in the first instance. If something goes right, they get really excited and it's the excitement that carries them through giving energy to make something else happen that gives  pleasure or happiness or even joy. In other words, emotions breed more emotions at least of the same value, but not necessarily the same quality. So a positive emotion evokes further positive emotions in the same person and can in fact evoke similar positive emotions in others as well. If something goes wrong, then we get upset, disappointed, overwhelmed, or angry and those negative emotions cause more of the same until the person concerned decides to cut them short.
So how is it that emotion can be the fuel of change?
We could see how in the second instance, where something is going wrong, how changing the emotion to positive is the power behind change. This requires a decision to do so and is of course a mental condition. So I would argue that change here comes from a thought + emotion.
In the first instance, of things going right, then it is maintaining the positive emotion that keeps things going in the desired direction. In this case it is maintenance of positivism that keeps fueling change ( or more of the desired action). This too requires the decision to stay with the actions that are producing the required positive results. Here too then, it's thought + emotion.
I would therefore argue that emotions plus thought are a necessary requirement for change.
Thankyou Tony for your great insights and we will be talking more about them in following blogs.
